Consider Adding Your Signature to Sign-On Letter Supporting Associations in Tax Reform

ASAE is asking you to get engaged

Tax reform is progressing with new urgency. Last week, the Senate passed a budget resolution that will clear the way for reform through reconciliation. Tax reform may impact not only our members, but some of the ways we operate as associations. Staff of the Congressional tax-writing committees have said they are examining potential changes to the treatment of unrelated business income tax (UBIT).

Congressional tax-writers are tasked with finding trillions in revenue to pay for the legislation. The American Society for Association Executives (ASAE) is concerned the search for revenue could lead to the possible expansion of UBIT, which could force associations to make tough financial decisions related to their activity and income sources. If these changes are made law associations may have difficulty fulfilling their mission and going the extra mile to address challenges in the world today.

ASAE and the Ohio Society of Association Executives (OSAE) need your help to remind Congress about the critical role that non-dues revenue plays in the ability of associations to survive periods of economic downturn and fulfill their tax-exempt purpose. Join the ASAE tax reform sign-on letter by clicking here. The deadline for submitting your organization's name to the letter is Friday, October 27 at 10:00pm ET.

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) has said he intends to pass legislation through the House by Thanksgiving. While the content of the legislation is currently unknown, we need your help to proactively educate Congress on the value of associations and the critical role that non-dues revenue plays in the health of our organizations.

Don't wait until a bill is introduced to get engaged in this important issue. Add your organization's name today. Associations make America stronger and deserve their tax-exemption. In virtually every industry and sector, associations advance workers' job skills and create new employment opportunities. Help us share that message with Congress.
