Brady Expects Technical Corrections Bill Next Year

Congress will likely have to fix any glitches, unintended consequences in the bill

As congressional Republicans continue to fast-track a massive overhaul of the tax code before the end of the year, House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady acknowledged that Congress will likely have to take up legislation next year to fix any glitches and unintended consequences in the bill.

“I’m certain there will be technical corrections given the magnitude of tax reform,” Brady told POLITICO earlier in the week. “Tax reform has a lot of technical issues in it.”

A technical corrections bill will likely not be taken up under reconciliation, so Republicans will need some Democrats to support any fixes in order to get through the Senate.

Asked if he expected Democratic support for changes to the tax bill, Brady said, “I would hope they would.”
