Executive Director

Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Association | Columbus, OH

Position Summary:

The Ohio Foot and Ankle Medical Association (OHFAMA) is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking executive director to work in partnership with the board of trustees to protect, promote and advance podiatric medicine and surgery in Ohio.

The executive director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and executive management of the organization consistent with the association’s strategic plan and the direction of the board of trustees.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned association management professional who possesses the knowledge and experience to lead the day-to-day operations and advocacy efforts of a membership-based medical association.

Responsibilities:

Governance

  • Advise and support the board of trustees in governing the organization.
  • Participate fully in deliberations of the board, board committees and other elements of governance.
  • Participate in the development of the association’s strategic plan.
  • Provide the board with regular reports, thought leadership, data, analysis and recommendations to assist in governance and strategic thinking.
  • Develop and propose board policies, operational procedures and amendments to the bylaws and other governing documents.
  • Plan and produce the association’s annual business meeting.
Financial
  • Develop and oversee the association’s annual budget in collaboration with the budget and finance committee and board of trustees.
  • Provide thoughtful stewardship of the association’s assets including cash, investments, tangible property and intellectual property.
Staff Management
  • Hire, develop, review and oversee the professional staff.
  • Establish a customer-focused staff culture that supports innovation, continuous improvement, career-long learning and professional development within a safe, welcoming and diverse workplace.
  • Set the tone and demonstrate ongoing support of a staff culture where employees of all levels report comfort discussing and taking action in diversity, equity and inclusion.
Advocacy
  • Lead policy advocacy and lobbying efforts with a contracted lobbyist: oversee research, media outreach, legislative education and member engagement in the policy process.
  • Manage alliances, coalitions and relationships with other organizations that support healthcare advocacy efforts.
  • Direct political action committee operations and ensure compliance with state regulations.
Operations
  • Manage the office, infrastructure, systems, policies and procedures necessary to administer the office.
  • Serve members and chapters and ensure consistent, high-quality, professional operations.
  • Develop, implement and market other products, programs and services.
  • Develop and manage relationships with sponsors, partners, advertisers, strategic allies and others.
  • Select, engage and supervise vendors and contractors and other service providers as needed.
  • Evaluate and sign contracts and other agreements.
Academy Relations
  • Support the growth and development of academies.
  • Provide a range of services, including consulting, board and staff development.
  • Ensure academies comply with the association’s bylaws, affiliation agreements and association operational standards, including policies and procedures.
  • Inform and educate academies on IRS requirements, legal responsibilities and best practices.
Foundation Relations
  • Assist the foundation with the annual scientific seminar, maintaining its stature as the state association’s premier educational event.
  • Serve in a role with the foundation on the board of directors.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of work experience with at least 10 years in a senior executive management position.
  • Ten years in 501(c)(6) professional member association work with at least five years at a senior level.
  • Certified Association Executive (CAE) accreditation preferred.
  • Previous association CEO experience is preferred.
