Israeli Strikes Hit Lebanon
At least 15 were killed in a town with a dark history of civilian deaths
Israeli airstrikes pounded areas across Lebanon, killing at least 21 people, officials said Wednesday, including 15 in a southern town where Israeli bombardments in previous conflicts are seared into local memory.
The other six were killed in a wave of strikes on the southern city of Nabatiyeh, where an earlier Israeli barrage destroyed a century-old market. The city's mayor was among the dead.
Lebanon's caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, accused Israel of "intentionally targeting" a meeting of the municipal council to discuss relief efforts, and said the international community has been “deliberately silent” about Israeli strikes that have killed civilians.
